The fashion industry has shifted toward a more sustainable approach in the last few years. Eyewear is an important part of it, it started to move away from plastic to create something more sustainable, and it is gaining a lot of popularity!

Sustainable eyewear brands prioritise frames made from eco-friendly materials like recycled plastic or bamboo. They have a lower environmental impact compared to traditional plastics. Most of these labels have responsible production processes, for example, using water-based adhesives and dyes, or implementing energy-efficient manufacturing. We should support companies with transparent supply chains and a commitment to ethical labour practices!

In addition, some companies offer glasses with replaceable parts to extend their lifespan, and a take-back program or recycling options for old eyewear.

Ballo’s production takes place entirely in Cape Town. The brand is very concerned about environmental, social and ethical issues, which is why it choose to make its items in South Africa where the level of unemployment is extremely high.

The glasses are made of recycled and upcycled materials: wood offcuts, recycled paper, fabric offcuts, bio-resin, end-of-roll canvas and recently cork.

This label was born from the idea of two Polish sisters: Karola and Monika Adamczyk.

RE: SIN team cares about every single stage of production: from carefully choosing the materials to selecting companies to cooperate with. The brand works with experts in the eyewear industry that use high-quality materials, which are ecological and premium. The glasses are handcrafted in Japan, because their technology and their quality control system guarantee reliability and repeatability of the highest quality, that’s why you can completely trust them.

The glasses are made of acetate, a plant-based material, which makes them biodegradable. To ensure the best quality, the brand uses the Zeiss lenses which provide full protection thanks to the 400 UV filter coatings, anti-reflective, and anti-scratch. As a finishing touch, the glasses are adorned with amber, meticulously prepared by Polish craftsmen, which pays tribute to their traditions and nature. This 40 million years stone, becomes mesmerizing in the rays of the sun, which adds uniqueness to the items.
